New mixed-use buildings will "wrap" portions of the existing arena and parking structures. This will have several desirable effects, including visually reducing their massive scale, generating new ground-level entertainment and retail spaces and providing upper-level urban residential use. The combination of renovated historical buildings, new retail space, and office and hotel developments will create a dense and active street life that draws its character from the interaction of old and new. Narrowed streets, widened sidewalks, generous planting, managed public areas and a series of programmed events are designed to create a pedestrian-friendly environment.
